Mommy, Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight?

greetings and salivations, true believers. Today is tuesday (look! i felt, for some unknown reason, like hitting the 'shift' key and capitalizing the second sentence of this entry!) and new comics have arrived at the shop. I just dropped Tulpa Black off and got a chance to peruse some of the titles set to hit the shelves tomorrow. some good looking stuff, i must say. more of DC's New 52 are dropping tomorrow and they show some promise. however, i'm more excited about issue #2 of the IDW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Issue #1 came out this month and the distributor has already sold out. Although i failed to score one of the Kevin Eastman variant covers, i was lucky to get one at all. the first issue boasts some great art and writing but i'm not too sure about the changes they've made to the origin story. we'll just have to wait and see where they take it, i suppose.

in other comic shop news, (to me, anyway) i've fallen in love with a new book called "Lady Mechanika". now, this is probably old hat to many of you indicated by the fact that issues #0 and 1 sold out and i have a collected reprint of those in one edition. I flipped through issue #1 while hanging out at the shop a couple months ago and was intrigued. however, as is the case with all things Steampunk, there was only one copy in the whole store and it was reserved for someone's pull. Needless to say, i was stoked when Tulpa told me there was a reprint collecting 0 and 1 of the series.
The art is fucking beautiful, imaginative and hip. most of the clothes look like those designed and made by my friend Elle's friend Kato for her Steampunk Couture line. Take a look and see for yourself the obvious influence Kato has had on this amazing book.

I have decided to write a short story to be considered for a collection of Steampunk horror from a small publishing house. the story will feature M Blackhorn, the main character in my current work in progress, tentatively titled "Of Peace-Rays And Patriots". The short story will be set seven years prior to the events of "Peace-Rays" just after Blackhorn's armored steam-bot designs make him a millionaire. He and his on again/off again lover, Minerva Delgado, along with a small crew are forced to land their airship on Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia to avoid a hurricane. the horrors they encounter there cause them to question whether or not they'd have been better off flying headlong into the storm. can you say bio-mech confederate deserter zombie? Enter the Zombie King. or as he refers to himself, Charlie.
